What you see - Nisarga is a small shop housed in a room in Times of India building on MG Road, Bangalore. At first glance, the store seems to deal in mats alone, but explore a little and you will be surprised by the variety of handcrafted products made from natural raw materials here.

What you get - Nisarga is the outlet for products by its mother company called Nature Interiors Pvt Limited that aims to manufacture and sell natural and eco-friendly handcrafted products made by rural artisans.

The products here are made from various natural resources like river grass, screw pine, palm leaves, sea grass and banana rope. The mats made of river grass fibers would not only provide a rustic appeal to your interiors but would also last long. These come in multiple sizes, designs and colors. There are river grass fiber mats that come with very fine weaves also. These come with zari border or kalamkari print border and cost Rs. 100 onwards.

Nisarga’s stock also features hand bags and storage boxes made of palm leaves and screw pine fibers. Bags in shades like lavender and pink at Rs. 300 onwards are a must buy. The storage boxes available in various sizes can be used for multiple purposes from storing jewelry to grains. Beautifully crafted saree boxes (Rs. 250) make for a unique purchase at Nisarga. You can store expensive silk sarees here or even give away as a gift. Other unique items at Nisarga are cushion covers and bolster covers made of fine river grass fibers and embellished with zari borders.

We also recommend Nisarga’s table mat sets and table runners made of banana hemp available for Rs. 300 onwards. These can be hand washed and are easy to maintain. Available in vibrant colors like peacock blue and sea green, these mats would be a good conversation starter. A small collection of accessories for women like terracotta jewelries (necklace sets), wooden bangles, mobile phone pouches and clutch bags made of fine river grass fiber are also available from Rs. 50 onwards. Water bottle bags are also a must-see. Laundry bins and dust bins are also available. Nisarga also takes orders for customization.

Our verdict - Nisarga products are eco-friendly and would add a countryside charm to your living space. Each product comes with instructions for cleaning so keep those in mind. The staff is very courteous and well-informed. Parking space is available on Church Street.
