Arya Vaidya Sala,
Lady Curzon Road,
Bangalore - 560064
What you see – You’ll see a dilapidated building at Kotakkal Arya Vaidya Sala. In fact, the only reason why we did not miss it was because we saw the signboard. But don’t let the appearance of the building stop you from going inside. Inside, it is quite a clean and modern clinic with consultation fees and timings prominently displayed on the waiting room wall.
What you get - A little bit about the history of this clinic. Yes, it is history alright, because this clinic is a little over a century old. It was founded by a physician called PS Varier in 1902. It first opened in Kottakkal, Kerala, where Ayurveda is supposed to have originated. Varier opened the clinic for charity and till date its proceeds are used for charitable purposes and research. Today, they have expanded across India, with branches in Bangalore as well.
The Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala branch on Lady Curzon Road is run by a Dr. Raveendran. Here, they provide treatment for ailments like rheumatism, arthritis, malaria, common cold, cough etc. They even treat early stages of cancer but for severe cases they recommend specialists. For ailments related to bones, they have several therapies including massages. They do not conduct surgeries at the clinic.
Remedies for several skin diseases and various forms of allergies are offered here. If you have a problem with receding hairline, then this is the right place to visit since they have medicines to arrest hair fall, prevent premature graying and cure other hair-related problems. They even have medications for obesity.
A very unique feature of this clinic is that they do not give general or pre-mixed medicines for your ailments. The medicines are mixed according to the specification of the physician. The physician decides the formulation after examining the patient and these are mixed in the clinic itself. The consultation charges here are Rs. 30 if you come without prior appointment. If you’d rather make an appointment, it would cost you Rs. 70. You can also buy Ayurvedic soaps and shampoos here. And guess what? They even sell banana chips here!
Our verdict - This is a good and reputed place for Ayurvedic treatment. We recommend that you take an appointment and go because it seems to be crowded almost all the time.
Anytime between - 9.30 AM -1 PM and 3 PM - 7 PM (Closed on Sundays)
The actual branch of AVS Kottakal in Bangalore is here. You are probably talking about a reseller/agent that is probably a good Ayurvedic clinic, however this is the actual branch. 37/3 , KRISHNA KUTEERA, T MARIAPPA RD., II BLOCK, 10TH MAIN ROAD, JAYANAGAR BANGALORE KARNATAKA 560011 Tel : 080-26572956 email@example.com Like every other AVS branch, this place offers free consultation. Timing I believe is between 10-1:30 and 4-7 for the free consultation. The resident doctor is Dr Sujith Kumar (Though I believe AVS transfers its doctors once in a couple of years or so) The medicines though are available from 10am - 8pm (Mon-Sat)
