What you get - Prashanti specializes in silk cotton sarees. These come with a mix of 60 per cent cotton and 40 per cent silk. The result is a look that is rich and elegant without being heavy to wear. Started by Malathi Muralidharan in Chennai, the shop has today grown from a small boutique to a thriving multi-city business and is a brand name that is synonymous with silk cotton sarees. The silk cotton sarees you get here are priced between Rs. 1,400 and Rs. 5000, which makes it affordable for almost everyone.
The collection of sarees is divided according to the need and occasion, making selection easier. The wedding collection is called Vivaham and has sarees in gorgeous jewel tones. Maroons, rusts, reds, yellows and royal blues are the colors here. They also have the nine-yard Korwai saree (Rs. 2,800 onwards) with a special woven border. The motifs are elegant and vary from flowers, birds, temples to divine figures like Lord Krishna. Since these sarees are silk cotton, they are easy maintenance and lightweight. They are also almost one third of the price of heavy Kanchipuram silks.
Prashanti’s other collection named Vaibhoham has silk cotton sarees that come with zari borders, mirror work etc. These are ideal as wedding giveaways and gifts. The Priyam collection has some beautiful embroidered and hand block printed sarees, which would be ideal as party wear. What MetroMela loved was Nityam, their collection of sarees suited for daily wear. These include polycotton sarees, Kalyani cotton and Salem silk. In fact, the Salem silk comes in great colors like pinks, bottle greens, rusts with a simple border, and is priced around Rs. 295 onwards. Great buy for those who wear sarees to work or love wearing them on a daily basis. Prashanti also stocks salwar kameez sets for women in silk cotton, poly cotton and plain cottons. You will also get the traditional dhoti for men here.
