These Yoga classes have been started by the popular spiritual master Bharat Thakur. The classes here claim to help in weight loss, toning of muscles, curing of diseases, stress relief and figure correction. Hatha Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Dhyana Yoga are all taught here.
What you see – A highly motivated and energetic trainer teaching asanas to an eclectic crowd is what your witness as soon as you enter Soundarya Hall at Malleshwaram Association. This is one of the branches of Bharat Thakur’s Artistic Yoga. The very surroundings of this area motivate you to grab that tiny bit of fresh air and serenity that Bangalore was once all about.
What you get - Artistic Yoga, taught here, is named so not because it is a mixture of yoga and some other form of physical activity. Monita, the trainer here clarified that, it is because they have combined the traditional Hatha Yoga, Asthanga Yoga and other traditional forms to make it simple for a layperson to understand and practice. They have developed their own style, which they claim is simple and uncomplicated.
When MetroMela visited it, a session was already in progress. So we got to see how exactly it was taught. As we were told, it was amazingly simple. In fact, the trainer, Monita, exudes such energy and positive vibes, that it looked like it was being passed on to the members as well. It was 6 in the morning and yet no one seemed to look as sleepy as we did. The low strains of music were soothing and had quite a calming effect.
The trainer informed us that the emphasis was on reaching the root of a problem. Their aim was to completely cure a health problem so that it doesn’t recur once you stop the course. They treat migraine, joint pain, diabetes and even obesity.
Apart from the medical benefits, Yoga is also used here as a stress buster. And here’s some good news for students. This form of yoga helps them stay alert and increases their concentration level as well. Not only that, they have asanas to improve your eyesight too. Membership costs Rs. 1,500 per month.
Our verdict – India’s Silicon Valley definitely needs places like this, especially for some peace and serenity. So take that one hour out for yourself and head towards Malleshwaram Association for a toned body and a relaxed mind.
Anytime between – 6 AM – 7 AM (Closed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays)
